Mahesh Bhatt

Filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and GM food whistle blower, Mahesh Bhatt, is one of the leading Indian personalities against GM technology. With uncompromising statements like “India is not a guinea pig for GM food” and “Production and promotion of Genetically Modified foods is an act of bio-terrorism”, Mahesh Bhatt went a step further to generate awareness through the film ‘Poison on the Platter’, an eye opener on repercussions of GM food.

I’m all for banning the propagation of GE food to an unquestioning and barely educated market, but where does Nestle say they use it?????
Someone picked this campaign and channeled a lot of money, time, web space and riled supporters into it and now GP has to find the most ridiculous and twisted ways to keep the campaign afloat.
A word to GP: Honesty would help, come clean… Do not slander a company for something they don’t do. Reword your poll statement. Apologize to the company and clear their name.
Reaffirm the stance of the poll-ers, hopefully that would be ‘Indians never would want GE food’.
    And then bow out!

Maybe you’d salvage some of your credibility and those of the poor ‘educated’ celebrities you’ve roped in, who by the looks of your site are made to seem like they support the ban Nestle campaign!

Like millions of other consumers, I always regarded Nestle’s as one of the ‘good-food’ companies. However I was shocked to know that Nestlé uses Genetically Engineered (GE) ingredients in its products.
BUT DO THEY?? IF they do…its time to stop them and ask them to quit, BUT if they DON’T… and GP has maligned them without good reason—it should admit it and stop the campaign against them. However, I haven’t had reason to doubt GP’s work for protecting our health and environment so far… and Im hoping that my faith in them is not misplaced this time too.
I am a doctor and totally against GM and GE foods, ingredients or pesticides/ fertilizers etc. or anything that is unproven and potentially lethal to our bodies and dangerous for our children, the gene pool of future generations and our environment and planet Earth! To my mind, GM and GE foods are a threat equivalent to the drug Thalidomide’ which was the cause of hundreds of deformed babies, only due to the fact that it was pushed into the mkts. in a commercial frenzy without enough proof of it being totally safe.
I pray that Nestlé go GE-free, now— before they lose millions of customers who had so much faith in them. I for one have stopped using Nestle products (even though your coffee and noodles were some of my favourites) till I know for sure that your products are GE free and harmless!

    Sincerely,
    Dr. Chanda Seth
