Stop Minister Chavan from poisoning our food

Bt Brinjal could be back because science and technology minister Prithviraj Chavan is trying to change the rules of the game.

Mr. Chavan pushed for Bt Brinjal in a letter he copied word for word from a study funded by biotech seed companies, including Monsanto. He is presenting an undemocratic GM bill to ease the legalisation of Bt Brinjal, rice, and more—without any public input. Mr. Chavan is supposed to serve the people of India. Instead, he’s serving the interests of biotech seed corporations.

Sign the petition asking the Prime Minister to stop Minister Chavan from poisoning our food. The petition says: “Minister Chavan has betrayed the public trust by doing the dirty work of biotech giants. The Prime Minister should throw out Chavan’s corrupt GM bill.

    Dear Minister,

The god have gifted us with plenty of varieties of food plants. Allowing the plantation of genetically modified varieties might creat havoc in over natural varieties in terms of their genetic sustainability. Afterall whats need?

Science should be used to reveal the wonders of nature, not to destroy the nature.

BT- It is not Bio-Tech BUT Bio-Terminator. It reminds me of kinder story about a foolish man cutting the branch of the tree on which he was sitting at the far end about to kill himself from a self devised fall.Such people should be thrown out of politics by voters otherwise they would ruin next generation of people and also their own.

  6. shani says:

Mr Prime minister we don’t want anything less for us and our children. what about the last thirty years of pesticide and fertilizers same way leaders and industry fooled us. Look at our children dying of cancer so young?? let us keep our indigenous Brinjal. in any case 44% of our children are malnourished and no body cares about it. BT does not improve our nutrition status in anyway. lets think next gen of children will have stunted brain growth so lets do some serious work to prevent it.

Hope you think seriously about saying no to any GM or artificial food.

  7. shani says:

  9. Sastry says:

There is story of a greedy King, who gains a boon from God, what ever he touches, it will become gold. At one moment, he forgets about the boon and touches his daughter, who will turn gold. Finally the king will perish because of not even able to eat the food with his hands.
This is moral story for children. At this juncture, the lesson should be learnt by our ministers.

But gradual testing, advancement techniques makes it smooth and acceptable only for the comfort and betterment of Human Society. The genius minds, research personel must care every aspect of the technology. So please rather protesting blindly do a research. Start exploring by yourself to know the truth. Start googling, search in jounals, health magazines before making any conclusive decision. Feel being the concerned citizen of an educated country, who needs to know the fact of any concerned issue.

  15. Sabiha Hashmi says:

    Dear Mr. Chavan
The politics of horse trading provided you the portfolio that you hold it does not mkae you a scientist by default. The purpose of scientificresearch is to benifit technologies which are benificial for humanity, not to line up the pockets of those who are financing thsese researches. It will be good for your own future and peace of mind not to act as a middleman for the GM seed barrons of the world. It will also be good for the planet at large if India cosciously and actively brings in policies that enhance our bio diversity and protect them.
Do you realise what desaster you are planning to unleash on the hapless million of our country by trying to introduce draconian bill that you are touting in the name of scientific research. Please desist if you have an iota of responsibility and love for your countrymen and indian eco system.
    Thanks

We feel very sorry for the poor state of affaitrs of the world & now India also. This is primarily because the leaders & the citizens and are becoming Godless.

We have rejected the instructions that God has kindly given in the scriptures. Because we are becoming godless, there are so many problems that material nature is giving us

BT problem is one such issue. We can truly solve these problems only by genuinely and with a sincere intent turning to God and praying to him for guigance to lead a pure & meaningful life.

    Mr Chavhan,
Lets live simply and think high on working on clean food production methods that create longevity. You are doing the opposite by allowing genetic modication in consumables. Would you want to see the population, who are like your children to have shorter life spans and get unclean spiritually by having a genetic mix applied to their meals. Think and then act please !!!!

  49. Varadha Yamunan says:

Friends, I appreciate the cause. But there is yet, another thing to listen. Did you ever care about the use of chemical fertilizers which are being used by the farmers?? They are more worse than this BT Brinjal. We funny people drink new new soft-drinks, is it not?? Have we ever considered them as a junk bottle of old chemicals?? Have we ever felt that “fast food” is horrifying us?? Then why are we fighting for this “BT-Brinjal”?? The only reason I could find, is that this “BT-problem” has become a political issue. The politicians are playing a fool out of us. You know why they are avoiding “Bt-Brinjals”?? Ask to yourselves, “Are the politicians really interested in our welfare”??
