  1. SANTOSH RAMCHANDRA KOLHATKAR says:

Stop the seed of brinjal from turning into a juggernaut.
If these people are allowed to get away with this now they will be uncontrollable.
They are begining now as the East India Co. did and will soon rule not just India but entire agricultural world. As they will fix the rates and the consumer will have no choice but either to stop eating and go hungry or buy at rates fixed by them.
They will get the seeds patented as if they have invented the discovery and hoard on it.

STOP GM OR START SELF ANNIHILATION

    DONT JUST THINK ACT

  2. Padmini says:

    To Mr. Jairam Ramesh,

    Dear Sir,

Being a responsible citizen of India, It’s my DUTY to let you know that WE DON’T WANT TO EAT GENETICALLY MODIFIED BRINJALS OR ANYTHING ELSE WHICH IS ABNORMAL AND HARMFUL.

Please Sir do not allow such companies to play with our lives and contaminate our COMING GENERATIONS.

  3. Mr Jairam,

I request you to not to allow these gene modified vegetables. We do not want any food in our body that does not come from natures natural work.

Be humane and join us with our hands together in protest against this.

  4. N. Krishnaraj says:

Let us try to produce more natural agriculture produce that too with organic manure. As already there are many new diseases that are getting in and by which we all suffering and struggling to get out of it, why these additional Genetic Induction to the Agricultural Produce unduly to get ourselves cornered and stuck with it. Kindly stop all these, please.

  5. ambarish says:

    Hi

I guess the stand taken by greenpeace as of now is little too radical. While I agree that there has to be sufficient consultation and empirical evidence before we introduce GM food, we should not come to a conclusion that its totally toxic and we should never use it. Lets have an open mind and discuss…

For all you know, this could be the solution for the food shortage in the world!!!!

  6. Chanda Seth says:

One commenter ‘SA’ writes that he doesn’t agree with the anti-GM cause b’coz no research has proved it to be harmful. But he would do well to remember that it hasn’t proved to be harmless either!! In fact it has hardly been researched long enough (for 2 generations atleast) to prove anything one way or the other…
Doesn’t he remember what happened with the drug ‘Thalidomide’ that was pushed into circulation without enough testing and the disastrous effects it had on foetuses! Thousands of infants were born deformed & without limbs etc…..all because they did not bother to research it long enough to see the effects on the next generation!
We HAVE ENOUGH food in the world (only unfair distribution and practices) —why do we need to play around with the gene pool of foods and living creatures as if to prove ourselves more intelligent and greater than GOD?!!—
Sorry ‘SA’ —its definately ‘NATURAL’ for me— I can’t wait for ‘never-coming’ proofs to take risks with kids soon-to-be-born and our future generations… There is already an avalanche of lethal & CDDs (chronic degenerative diseases) —that are probably due to the very toxic, inorganic, man-made chemicals in our air, food, soil, and water, and to all our interference with naturein trying to modify and play around with genes etc.
    Chanda

  7. Das says:

Please stop all GM food immediately. I do not want to be the victim of cancer or some as yet unknown disease.

  8. Navneet Jha says:

    To Mr. Jairam Ramesh,

    Sir,

Plz do not make indians a labrat. As a citizen of India i have a right to act, against any abnormal surgery with my food. I heart that GM food will solve the problem of food shortage but I thing if we will be able to improve our distribution channel, we can solve this problem.

  9. Santhosh Thannikat says:

Let it be tried and tested in EU and USA. Once it found to be safe for human consumption, we can introduce it.

  10. Sivasankar says:

    To Mr Jairam Ramesh

Pls leave your mark as a responsible Minister for the future Generation of Governance in India by standing strictly opposite to those who want to spoil the Indian Food Culture. Every future generation kid will remember you for your acts now, if and only if you prevent anything imparted or imported as technology or culture that hampers our Society at large.

You are an elected Member of Parliament and Minister with huge responsibility to safeguard your Country first, come what may next.
    Thanks

  11. Aneesh says:

Be an Indian must say this is one of the bad decision going to take our ministry. So directly and strongly say no to GM crops and enjoye a helthy environment

  12. Pooja Nagesh says:

    Mr Jairam Ramesh,

I am a vegetarian(by choice) since childhood and always encourage my friends to turn into vegetarians too. But if genetically modified vegetables is what we get to eat i guess i will have to change my stand.
I also do believe that GM veggies might well be the solution to the food shortage and rising price situation in our country but my sincere request to you is to allow such technology to come in only if research and tests prove that it causes no harm when consumed by humans.
I hope you take the voice of various citizens into consideration before arriving at a decision.

    Thanks & wishes,
    Pooja.

  13. Ramalingam says:

    Mr Jairam Ramesh,

GM food will not be solution for food shortage. It makes farmers less dependent on themselves. This allows only few companies in world to control entire food system. It is scientifically proved that it contaminates other plants as well hence it will affect the entire eco-system. GM food is resistance to some insect since it has poison. Be aware that insects starts to build immune system against these poisons very quickly. It also affects other animals/Spices. What is the wrong did those spices done to this world. Its all human mistake and other spices suffers a lot. Let us stop GM in one – voice. Europe stopped GM. We cannot do it.

  14. Ramalingam says:

………….Europe stopped GM. We can stop it. After all Europeans are not fool.

  15. Devinder Nag says:

    Dear Hon,able Minister Sir,

We in our country already have innumerable problems of health. many parts of the country have heavily polluted drinking water with pesticides. we know the cause but have not been able to find a solution because of the vicious cycle in which a farmar is pushed into.

Now let us not have yet another” Democles Sword” hanging above our heads, when we do not know what the BT bringles have in store for our health. We the citizen of India DO NOT want un-natural , tempered foods. Many are likely to fall sick by the sheer knowledge that what they are eating is not the gift of mother nature but an artificially tempered vegetable, possibly likely to cause cancer sooner or later.

I am a well educated person but honestly speaking even I feel that way and would not like such Bringles. Please leave out the edible stuff from the realm of BT. By doing that you will put the fearfull mind of masses to rest.

Thanks in anticipation and best regards.

    Dr D S Nag

  16. Ganesan says:

    Hello Sir,

We trust you and have faith in you please help millions of people life by providing us the quality food products for the money what we give.

    Thanks,
    -Ganesh

  17. Jo says:

no gm food please. nature is good enough and the gen food might be a high risk for nature – for us. the only ones who need gen food are the companies who sell this. they are just turning shit into gold and leaving us the shit to eat – no thanks!!

  18. Ashish says:

    Dear Mr. Ramesh,

Please don’t sell India’s soul to multinational companies and their agents in the country. We have been an agricultural nation for thousands of years and mother nature has been very kind to us. Just for the sake of profits companies like Monsanto, Dupont, Mahyco, Syngenta are trying to patent each and every plant grown on Indian soil. They are trying to gain monopoly at the expense of mother nature, poor Indian farmer and the Indian citizens consumer.

GM should be banned as a whole. We cannot be carrying out biosafety tests for every new GM crop. Scientifically, nutritionally, philosophically, morally, environmentally, religiously, no matter what the perspective – GM foods are unsafe and unnecessary for this planet. After political and economic imperialism, let India not fall victim to agricultural exploitation. Let us all promote organic cultivation and proper farmer rights instead.

    Regards,
    Ashish

  19. [...] As citizens of this democratic nation, we too are stakeholders in such an important decision and our opinions on this issue certainly make a great difference. I have left a message for Jairam Ramesh  at – http://greenpeace.in/safefood/consult-me-too/?tyf=1 [...]

  20. Manoj says:

    Sir ,
here i see two negative effect of GM being allowing to our country. one major effect obvious on health which has been described by every one in very good manor. the second is on our farmer and agriculture, bcoz already indian farmers condition is not better, most of the time we hear abt farmer sucide, even they r not able to afford reliance fresh. these companies r like a busyness giant, they will play every bad game to strengthen their steps.
already our farm land are getting reduced day by day..if it will be like that then days r not far when our generation will turn towards agriculture again to feed themselves nd that time it wont b possible too.
so instead of allowing them why dont we bring the revolution back of HARIT KRANTI in terms of agriculture. so stop any test nd STOP GM.

  21. rkpatel says:

I am totally CONFUSED,because the GM-FOOD is not only for YOURSELF and for MYSELF.

It is for ALL-HUMANS and thereby for ALL-BEINGS and ALL-THINGS called the WORLD or the UNIVERSE.

Also GM-FOOD is not the only PROBLEM.

Although I BELIEVE in SEARCH of and APPLICATION of NEW-KNOWLEDGE for our WELFARE and WELBEING,Ihave resigned to leave the MATTER to SO-CALLED-EXPERTS or SPECIALISTS..!!

We are sitting in the SAME-BOAT,called the EARTH..!!

If the SO-CALLED-EXPERTS or SPECIALISTS would proved to be WRONG and WE would DROWN with them, then IT WOULD BE SHAME ON US-HUMANS..!!

ONLY GOD,WHOM WE-INDIANS have KNOWN for AGES as BHAGAVAN;KNOWS the TRUTH..!!

I BELIEVE as NAMELESS-FORMLESS-BODYLESS- SELFLESS or UNSELFISH BEINGS WE ARE ETERNAL ie LIVE FOREVER like GOD or BHAGAVAN PARAMAATMAN..!!

Therefore, let’s LIVE as if WE WERE NAMELESS-FORMLESS-BODYLESS- SELFLESS or UNSELFISH BEINGS..!!

Think about that for a moment..!!

  22. Piyush says:

    Dear Sir

The utmost priority of any government is that they ensure that its citizen and their future generations are healthy ones, and not a bunch of defctive pieces. It’s extremely important to be a prosperous and powerful nation. US is an example.

BT brinjal is certaily a step backward in that direction. Plz understand.

  23. percivell says:

How many people know about this mix-up. GM-Food, how many other vegetables are there for human consumption? Brijal is one what about others?

  24. Surendra Halgeri says:

    Dear Sir

We can do our own safety testing of foods and drugs, as much as possible. If not, follow the standards opted by Japan or EU. They are the closest to protecting the health of their citizens without falling prey to capitalistic motives like USA!!

  25. vijay says:

    I agree with Surendra Halgeri,
    without any doubt.

  26. Nilesh says:

    Mr Jairam Ramesh,

Be a Responsible citizen. Stop this nonsense of promoting GM food.

  27. ANS Rao says:

    Dear Mr Ramesh,

    * GM seems to be good; however lets test it fully

    * There seems to be more disinformation about GM crops than correct information. Us common citizens do not know what is the situation with BT Cotton. Maybe that should act as a good pointer to the introduction of GM Brinjal

    * Since the advent of the East India Company, Indians are not comfortable with MNCs telling them what to do. Maybe you should commission a time-bound research-oriented GM project with CSIR/ CCMB.

    * Also let the Indian public have a choice of buying non-GM produce, In case GM crops are introduced. Let the market decide the merits, if it comes to that.

WHATEVER IT MAY BE, GM SEEMS TO BE THE FUTURE. PLEASE GET IT TESTED PROPERLY. IF IT IS SAFE, PLEASE SEE THAT WE DON’T FALL IN THE HANDS OF PROFIT-MONGERERS.

  28. Gujju says:

This genetically modified Brinjal is crap.
Lets stop this shit from entering our country. There are other means to deal with food crisis.Lets not play with nature. No Indian citizen wants to eat shit and those who want to eat this should get out of india.
Genetically modified untested food generation, possesson and consumption should be considered a crime instead.
Mankind should use Genetic engg for very limited purposes and on a very limited space. If you really know the science and technology then you should understand that Its a BIO-HAZARD.

  29. nilofer says:

    Sir,

Sir, would you want your children to BT Brinjal or the naturally produced ones?

    Nilofer

  30. H.R.SHENOY says:

    Dear Mr.Jairam,
Please let us not test the patience of the nature ! Nature knows the Best what is Good for us. Iam fully convinced Bt Brinjal is definetly not in the good interest of anyone of us. Please, please do not try to modify the nature’s Gift and face the wrath !

  31. Shivani says:

    Respected Mr.Jairam,

Being a citizen of India it is not only my duty but my democratic right to oppose against something that could cause damage to the nation. We all are responsible and educated individuals to understand that GENETICALLY MODIFIED vegetables are not only going to harm the farmers but also our healths.

I am sure that you holding such a designated position would not do injustice to the farmers who work so hard to reap good food for us even after knowing that they are going to get back few returns.

I am sure that bringing in such food would only put them (farmers) at stake but would further accentuate the economic imbalance. After all even you would not want the financial status of these poor farmers to grow worse.

I am not in favor of bringing multiple profits to the companies associated with such GM vegetables and disposing our farmers aside like a piece of trash.

Apart from everything else we can’t be putting us and our future generations at stake for such companies who have avarice for money. We can’t be denying the hazards that these vegetables would cause to us.

    I strongly oppose this act.

I would request you to voice the decision of the citizens of India to these companies and not allow them enter our soil.

    Regards
    Shivani

  32. Vinay Jain says:

    Dear Mr. JR

When the politician of India will start listening to the voice of “AAM AADMI” of India? Pl enter into the shoes of these people for a while then listen to your “Antaratma Ki Aaawaz”, if u can, u will find yourself sitting in the lap of MNCs and Big Corporates. But u will not do this ? Reasons are well known to every one. But, keep it in mind, that your family, your children and their children are also going to eat such foods only. That time you will understand what losses you have made to this country, but by that time it will be very late.

  33. Puneet says:

    Mr. Jairam Ramesh,
You failed us at copenhagen. Don’t repeat your mistake please. Stop this Genetic Food Terrorism.

  34. Rachna L says:

India must take action to stop the loss of farmer’s rights through the genetic modification of food.

  35. vikram says:

Namaskaar, please dont permit the hybrid / genetecally modified / BT food items in our country. If you cannot do any good to our innocent indians no one will find fault with you…,but please dont do permanent harm. Food consumed by a oerson will effect his thinking. Lets promote only our country’s original varieties. Dont force our country into slavery again. Dhanyavad-09444536163 vikram2036.iitm@gmail.com

  36. Manoranjan Palai says:

    Dear Sir ,
Nature has it’s own balance.By inserting gene from bacteria to brinjal we can do our lab tests but it shouldn’t be forced on the Humane race to bear the consequences of these misadventours. Once the BT Brinjals let in to open field trail we can’t reverse the changes because of cross pollination with the natural breeds. If we are talking about food security, We can take one meal fast every week rather than being fed with toxic vegitables. 95% of the indians I guess may not have a clear idea about what is BT BRINJAL. We don’t have any rights to force them to be “Guniea Pigs / Lab Rats” ,without taking their consent. Our future generation may not forgive us for allowing these activity in favour of some seed companies to have a uethical moneytary gain.

  37. mridu says:

Can I please get on with my life with you not trying to mess it up further with toxic gm food. I have Real Work to do , rather and sit and sign petitions stating the obvious. gm food= poision , no rocket science. You dint need to waste that much time and money to Know that!!

  38. Dr D P Sinha says:

    Dear Mr Ramesh
I read that you are one of the most educated amongst the ministers that we have. However inspite of your westen education you have allowed secret farming of BT brinjal in west bengal in collusion with the marxist govt in Bengal. I am mortified to learn about this obnoxious collaboration without taking into consideration of the implication. We have suffered enough in the hands of MNC acting together with local corrupted politicians. This has dammed us all. Pl take your ambition elsewhere and leave us in peace.
    Dr D P Sinha

  39. Dear Honorable Minister Mr. Jairam Ramesh,

Being a responsible citizen of India, It’s my DUTY to let you know that WE DON’T WANT TO EAT GENETICALLY MODIFIED BRINJALS OR ANYTHING ELSE WHICH IS ABNORMAL AND HARMFUL.

India must take action to stop the loss of farmer’s rights through the genetic modification of food.

Please Sir do not allow such companies to play with our lives and contaminate our COMING GENERATIONS.

sir, we keralites are grateful to indira gandhi for saving silent valley; to rajiv gandhi for saving pooyankutty forests and rahul and sonia gandhi and you for saving athirappilly waterfalls. now. we congratulate you for holding public consultations on gm foods. please heed the scientists’ voice on the issue and take wise decision to avert human and environmental catastrophs. please imbibe the spirit of deep ecology. thank you, sriraj panicker, trivandrum.

  41. Saroj Kumar Barik says:

Poor people of India needs sovereignty on seeds and food, why you all decision makers are snatching it from them for your personal or party benefit. People of India will not excuse you all.

  42. Muthu says:

It affects our farmers, affects the nature, affects our own health. what is even the discussion here!
Say NO a big NO to genetically modified foods. and please those who say it will help in food shortage etc.. etc.. kindly do your research on these don’s just believe whatever you hear. just because of food shortage you can’t put anything in your body. and kindly ask yourselves this question, ” Do I want to leave a safe world back for my kids, grand children and great grand children without them worrying what am I eating is safe or not?”

  43. Akanksha says:

Our Ancient methods of agriculture are not only great, but have been tested for thousands of years, and There were no side effects on health, when we eat organically grown food.
Naturaly grown food is teasty, and do not disturb aur internal body systems.
If some one is not educated enough to understand the health concern attached withteh GM food, I would suggest :

RUN A TASTE BATTLE B/W GM and Naturally GROWN ORGANIC FOOD.

    Select Who ever WINS.

I have read in a magzine some where that the Son of Relince mastero : feeds his cattles with Organic food, bill comes around 36000 pm. If the leaders even do not believe on GM’s even for their animals, Why should a poor man feed his son by GM food.

We should promote Organic Farming, this will be helpful for our farmers, our agriculture land, and our water resources as well.

  44. t.gouricharan says:

    Dear Sir,

India has become a testing centre, the genetically modified foods will be tested here
and for any side effects medicine will be developed there and sold at exhorbitant
rates. So sir, please stop this immediately. Let us not spoil the health of Indians.

  45. Mallika says:

WE DO NOT (underlined) WANT ANY GM/Bt FOOD IN INDIA. Mr. Jairam, if YOU WANT SOME, PLEASE GO TO THE US, DON’T BRING IT HERE. – I oppose this project after reading up on both sides of the proposal.

  46. Sriprem says:

    Dear Jairam,
I sincerely object the notion of Genetically modified food. When all that a intiative serves is malevolence what is the point in going for it.The project should be stopped at any cost to save our Indian economy after all India is an agricultural economy. Please take some diligent against such projects and save Indian farmers.

  47. I have read all the comments displayed in this article by greenpeACE. After studying the pros and cons of GM foods, this is a gamble with irreversible consequences -the trials and introduction of GM foods with absolutely no guarantee of our health security and our safety. According to the UN Declaration of Human Rights aLso this contamination of the UNIVERSE is a crime against humanity. Together with all the crimes committed by modern civilisation like the atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons(perfect5 murders), fresh introduction of nuclear programmes and societies built on the bedrock of crass specialisations and frauds committed on the Universe by IPCC,the WHO and the IAEA, it behoves on India to trash once and for all this dangerous experiment on life.

  48. sankaranarayanan says:

    dear sir,
it is always much said and less done. please for our future generation’s sake don’t play havoc with one of the basic necessities of life-”food”.time and again lots of things which were invented by man especially in the health scenario proved to have disastrous side effects. enough of making the common man a guinea pig.please stop all this!

  49. preeti says:

    Dear Mr. Jairam Ramesh,

Please do not choose short term benefit at the cost of long term misery. Research has proved that GM food is no good. Playing with nature this way will only make survival difficult for the future generations.

Mother earth can support 600 billion people! All that is required is that people like you on the “decision make seats” take rational and intelligent decisions! Decisions in favour of humanity!

  50. M S H SHEIKH says:

BT Brijnal is nonsense trade of traditional vegetable brinjal on which every Gujarati depends.

What is need of importing the cloned cell in to india is not understandable.
The negative impacts of such GM brijal is yet not fully studied on our species so we should not hurry and worry about the GM Crop in india.
There is no need to import Cloned food in our country but there is urgent need to manage our own food sustainably.

I Oppose the BT at all cost.
