Nestle refuses to take back products

Nestle showed no interest in listening to their customers

Today, we moved from the safe food guide to the door step of Nestle. Around 200 consumers were represented by 8 volunteers with products like Maggi, Cerelac, Lactogen and the like at the northern regional office of Nestle in Connaught circus.

The plan was rather clear: we had been collecting products from Nestle consumers for the last two days. Got them – returned to the sender – because consumers would rather have other products than Nestle’s products which cant be trusted to be GM free.

Larger than life nests were made, names of consumers printed and neatly stuck by our volunteers Kuba, Vikrant, Sahai, Debojyoti, Anurag, Naina, Mehul and Sayani, all ready to go.

More than 1000 consumers had pledged to return the products in a span of 20 hours. The total count of people who have demanded Nestle to go GM free has so far crossed 22,000.

Instead the police were brought in to get rid of consumer pressure!

Instead the police were brought in to get rid of consumer pressure!

A few days back, Nestle called up and said we have great misunderstandings on their policy but refused to talk about double standards or the Chinese baby food scandal or anything that sounded like a GM free policy. We sent a letter for them to clarify their stand yesterday. Today, we reiterate this message with a the support of consumers who want to return the products.

So when we finally arrived, Nestle pulled their cars in (fearing us?), refused to let us even into the reception. They called the police in five minutes and locked themselves up. After the police were satisfied with the reason why we were doing this they demanded that we should take it away, which we promptly refused – we were merely representing consumers.

After Nitin’s amazing ‘dances’ with the police and having made it very clear that we are not going to take them away, we left the area. Last I saw, after more than 2 hours, Nestle’s office remained shut and the nests were having a lot of interesting visitors.

I’m all for banning the propagation of GE food to an unquestioning and barely educated market, but where does Nestle say they use it?????
Someone picked this campaign and channeled a lot of money, time, web space and riled supporters into it and now GP has to find the most ridiculous and twisted ways to keep the campaign afloat.
A word to GP: Honesty would help, come clean… Do not slander a company for something they don’t do. Reword your poll statement. Apologize to the company and clear their name.
Reaffirm the stance of the poll-ers, hopefully that would be ‘Indians never would want GE food’.
    And then bow out!

Maybe you’d salvage some of your credibility and those of the poor ‘educated’ celebrities you’ve roped in, who by the looks of your site are made to seem like they support the ban Nestle campaign!

Mary it seems you are a spokes person from Nestle. They have been having double standards specially in India. This is the prime reason for their not coming clean on the topic. Why let the doubt get out of proportion if you are sure of what you are doing. It seems you are a nestle employee who is trying to persuade…but agas…of no avail.

Let me tell u that Nestle will suffer for their misadventures in India. Just by being swiss doesnt mean they are more educated than us Indians. Our people are being taken for a ride by these…Bas….

Rest India and Indians will decide…
