Thanks to the consumer pressure from over 25,000 concerned customers like you Nestle has finally clarified its stand on GE food.
The good news: Nestle says that as of today it is GE free!
The bad news: Nestle has no problem in having GE in their food if their consumers want it.
It’s time to tell Nestle what our consumer preference is. People in Europe, Russia and Brazil don’t get GE food from Nestle because they have made their choice. It’s time to make our choice!
Read Nestle’s statement

Nestle, please dont be stupid and insult us. Make all your products in all countries GE free, until all the consumers of the world tell you to produce GE food.
its a good initiative folks!
but creating a poll is as stupid as what nestle is doing. and the poll wording needs to be changed!
Nestle has said that they are not using GM foods in India.
They have said that they take local attitudes and preferences into consideration. That is not the same as saying that they think that consumers here prefer GM foods.
Also, they have said that they understand that in the future, genetic technology has the potential to overcome certain hurdles that food supplies have now. That is where, those of us who don’t like mutating the geenes in our food need to voice our opinions and take a stand. So that future policies take that into consideration. If we blacklist Nestel now, and twist their words, and embellish them, we are far worse than any of the multinational corporate entities that are famous for this kind of game.
Please present only the true picture.
The first part of the letter claims that no telephonic conversation has happened where Greenpeace has claimed to have had one. What is that about?
PLease don’t lose credibility. It will affect all other campaigns and future stands that you take.
Someone has said that logically GM foods can’t possibly harm us! I would ask them to please read up on what GM is. Modifying the gene.. mutating it, so that a potato behaves like a super potato, or a leaf has more iron than nature intended it to, is the same thing that Cancer does. It gets one cell to behave like another, or to out-perform the others around it. If you don’t think that causing cancer in food sources is harmful to those eating it,…. I have nothing further to say.
I guess, in this letter Nestle has clearly mentioned that they don’t use GE food in India. So what is the issue then. However, to ensure that Nestle don’t use this in future as well, it’s good to have people opinion.
I’m all for banning the propagation of GE food to an unquestioning and barely educated market, but where does Nestle say they use it?????
Someone picked this campaign and channeled a lot of money, time, web space and riled supporters into it and now GP has to find the most ridiculous and twisted ways to keep the campaign afloat.
A word to GP: Honesty would help, come clean… Do not slander a company for something they don’t do. Reword your poll statement. Apologize to the company and clear their name.
Reaffirm the stance of the poll-ers, hopefully that would be ‘Indians never would want GE food’.
And then bow out!
Maybe you’d salvage some of your credibility.
Whats the whole issue.
Why is GP targetting Nestle. Please reword your campaign, apologise to the company and more importantly the community which has been made to belive (and some of them would have been under considerable stress and fear) that some the products that they are comsuming had GM food .
I guess that is what GP can do to salvage some of its integrity.
Also please realise that your acts often have put civil society in bad light. I hope that there is no individual who is minting money out of prssurising a corporate by developing community opinion against it. GP in this case has misconstrued facts and they should apologise.
Please stop using words like GM and GE unless you know what you are talking about. This goes for everyone who has used these abbreviations with such ignorance in this forum.
GE can be on different levels and in different magnitudes and we are all a result of GM done by nature. And before you all start shouting that that was nature/natural… stop! Its all a bunch of nonsense that whatever happens in nature is right… because its not… it just happens.
What GM means to me is a hope that we will be able to understand what we require as food and develop new products(not natural vegetables) which can be grown in adverse conditions and in lesser of a time.
Even if GM right now is not matured enough, don’t force companies to take a strong stand against the technology just because it does not fit into what you believe is “Good for us”. And instead of rallying like a bunch of hippes every time someone dies by eating GM food just realize that our natural fertilizer flavored Food supply kills more people everyday. Instead contribute towards the research and ask the firms doing research to make their progress known every year/quarter/month so we know when it is safe to eat a particular product(It will be different for each product).
