I called, someone just keep saying “Ji” “Ji”. Is there any way to ensure that our protests get communicated to the PM.

I don’t know how many more farmer suicides the politicians want? We mortgaged the farmers lives by first signing up with American Seeds and Monsanto for seeds now BT vegetables.

I called this number. Someone confirmed that this was the PM’s office. When I started talking, they disconnected abruptly. I guess they have been getting a lot of these calls!! But I doubt if anyone is going to report these calls to the PM.

Dear PM

When the whole world is moving away from GM foods towards organic food, why is the Indian govt so keen on adopting this technology?

Are we in a position to understand the long term impacts of using GM food?

Do the apparent benefits of using GM food outweigh the risk factors like contamination of Non GM crops?

Are there simpler/cheaper in the long run ways of dealing with food security? how about disaster mitigation, better cold storage facilities, rain water harvesting and other methods that can really help the farmer?

Adoption of GM foods will be beneficial more to the pvt corporations or the poor farmers in the long run?

Is the govt really serious about their manifasto slogan of ‘ congress ka haath garibon ke saath’?

1. Genetically modified foods toys with genes and hence interferes with natural selection and evolution of plants much like “gay marriage”
2. Most of the economic benefits out of sale of GM crops would go to US and EU as they may own patents.
3. India has richest in terms of plant diversity and agrobiodiversity as the region is origin of many important plant like mango, citrus, cucurbits etc and people of India depend on these from time immemorial and hence introduction of GM foods will accelerate loss of agrobiodiversity.
4. The effect of these foods on human health remains still to be examined atleast at large population level.
5. Insertion of gene may be subject to mutation in the crops which may be harmful for humans in the long run as the genes are manipulated.
6. India is dependent on crops and already rising prices of agriculture commodity is pushing farmers to limit and toying with nature to introduce GM crops in farmer’s field should be counterproductive in long run.
